Built in 1972 and furnished as a version of the ethno museum, the Lička kuća Restaurant, with its ambience and gastronomic offer based on food of local origin, authentically revives the richness of tradition in Lika region. Speleon – A new Ice Age planet: Discover the newly-opened visitor centre at discount prices

The Barać Cave Public Institution opened the doors of the newly-built Centre of Subterranean Heritage, near the already well-known Barać Caves.  The Centre will be open to visitors throughout the year, and will cater to visitors of all ages.

The Barać Caves are located just a short one-and-a-half-hour drive from Zagreb, and 20 minutes away from Plitvice Lakes National Park, in the Municipality of Rakovica. The Barać Caves are one of the hidden jewels of the underworld, where you can find traces of the past dating back tens of thousands of years, which will now for the first time see the light of day in Speleon – Centre of Subterranean Heritage.

Speleon will thus present a veritable time machine – from the Middle Ages to the Pleistocene. However, what makes this time machine truly special is its out-of-the-ordinary exhibition, including hyper-realistic replicas of extinct animal species, and a sensory chamber simulating cave-like conditions. The entire exhibition is accompanied by a number of modern, multimedia interpretation models, such as model displays, LCD screens, smart glass, replicas, animations, multi-touch screens and more.

Speleon – Centre of Subterranean Heritage is an ideal adventure for the whole family, and the youngest visitors will be able to enjoy the speleological playground course, i.e. the speleology- and Ice Age-inspired children’s play area, which can be used free of charge by all visitors to the Centre. Visitors can also enjoy free parking as part of the Centre, a coffee shop, a souvenir shop, a speleological library and an atrium housing hyper-realistic replicas of animals.

Throughout February, tickets will be sold at a discount of 35% for individual tickets. Free admission is provided to children under the age of 7, and the ticket price also includes an expert guide.
