Amethyst meadow squill in the Plitvice Lakes National Park

Urednik Projects

The amethyst meadow squill (Chouardia litardierei), an endemic Illyrian-Balkan species, is found in the grasslands of the Plitvice Lakes National Park and the neighbouring areas. The species is spread in the Dinaric karst region and is bound to open, occasionally flooded and wet habitats, mostly meadows, grasslands and base-rich fens. It is a target Natura species for the Park.

For years, the employees of the Park’s experts service have been monitoring this species. The monitoring has been carried out annually and has consisted of visual census and quadrat counting.

The aim is to determine the population status and potential threats to this species, which would allow for timely conservation measures. For now, the species in the Park area is in good condition.
