FORESTS OF THE PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK – PART OF THE EUROPEAN ECOLOGICAL NETWORK NATURA 2000

Urednik Uncategorized

NATURA 2000 is an ecological network of the European Union, composed of areas important for the conservation of endangered species and habitat types, and established on the basis of the Birds Directive and the Habitats Directive.

In these areas, it is necessary to maintain the existing state of nature, to continue with sustainable activities, and to prevent activities that might have a negative effect on nature (this does not exclude human activity).
The Plitvice Lakes National Park is part of the European ecological network NATURA 2000. More than 80% of the surface area of the Plitvice Lakes National Park is occupied by forest target habitats under Natura 2000, comprising two priority target habitat types and six target habitat types.
This means that the conservation of those habitats should be given special attention, and their entire surfaces areas must be maintained in a favourable condition. As regards the priority habitats that are in danger of disappearing at the European Union level, all Member States have a special responsibility for conserving such habitats within their territory.

PRIORITY TARGET HABITATS UNDER NATURA 2000 IN THE AREA OF THE NATIONAL PARK:

9180 Tilio-Acerion forests of slopes, screes and ravines
91EO Alluvial forests
