This year’s World Environment Day focuses on the theme of climate change, those powerful changes that tell us that our world is changing. We are witnessing this through rising sea levels, longer-lasting heat waves, extreme weather events, melting glaciers, and rising air and water temperatures. All of these are strong signals resulting from the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels.
However, positive changes are also occurring on Earth, and they provide a glimpse into the future, although we still have a long way to go. Renewable energy sources are increasingly being used, reforestation is underway, and climate action is gaining momentum, contributing to raising awareness and making positive changes.
