The European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus) is a rare bird of prey in the Park, with only a few recorded individuals. It is a nesting and migratory bird, and nests in tall forest trees. It hunts in open areas, feeding mostly on larvae and adult wasps, hornets and bumblebees, but will also catch small mammals, birds and earthworms.

This species’ living habitat makes monitoring a challenge. Every year, the Professional Service Department records data on this species in order to determine the size and condition of its population. It is believed that 1–2 pairs of this species nest within the Park area.
The European honey buzzard is a Natura species and target species for the Park.
