The International Day of Forests is celebrated on 21 March, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of forests in conserving the planet Earth.
Conserving the forests is one of the best ways to protect our planet and ourselves
Under the Decision of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, the theme of the 2023 International Day of Forests is “Forests and Health”. Forests give us so much – they provide us with clean water and air, they mitigate climate change by storing carbon, they improve our health. Natural forests provide the most benefits, and these are precisely the forests that are home to the NP Plitvice Lakes. Take care of your health by enjoying the hiking trails of the Plitvice Lakes – there are more than 30 km of well-maintained trails that criss-cross the conserved natural forest communities. Keep in mind that you will be sharing the forest with its permanent inhabitants, so follow the hiking etiquette, do not be selfish and do not act as if the forest only benefits you. Always keep in mind that the forest and its inhabitants are vulnerable to your every irresponsible activity in the forest, such as starting a fire, damaging trees, picking flowers, etc.
