We present to you the (SKD) “PROSVJETA” branch in Korenica, which has been active for many years, specifically since 1998. The society’s program is primarily based on tradition, with the main task of nurturing and preserving cultural heritage. The motto of the branch is: “Let’s sing old songs, preserve traditions.”
Currently, SKD “PROSVJETA” branch in Korenica has around 30 active members, divided into two groups – a younger and an older folklore section. In addition to the folklore section, the society also has a literary and recitation section. The members of the society, along with their instructors, aim to revive customs, primarily through song, dance, jokes, and games.
Members have participated in various events across Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Each time, they proudly presented “Ličko kolo,” the traditional dance of Lika, evoking a wave of positive emotions. “Ličko kolo” is the main choreography performed by the members during their performances. In addition, they perform other choreographies such as “Igre iz Šumadije,” “Igre iz okoline Leskovca,” a Medley of Folk Songs, a Medley of Children’s Games, a Medley of Children’s Folk Songs, and others. This year, the SKD “PROSVJETA” branch in Korenica held its first annual concert titled “Harmony in the Heart, Folklore in the Soul.”
This year’s performance by SKD “Prosvjeta” as part of the Cultural Heritage Summer will take place on August 26, 2023, at Campsite Borje, starting at 7 PM. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the rich folklore tradition of this region.
